Alex & Kelly’s Gorgeous DC Wedding

I met Kelly a few years ago during the ‘Snowmagedon’ year when we were working the same event on a very snowy night. As a DC event caterer, Kelly has worked numerous events with me, and we have become friends over the years, so I was of course tickled when she asked me to be her wedding photographer!!  Not only are Kelly and Alex sweet, caring and a TON of fun, they are also very photogenic and super comfortable in front of the camera (which was even more evident during their engagement session last summer)!  Kelly and Alex met through family – Alex is a close friend of Kelly’s cousin and after he appeared one holiday at a family gathering they were both quite smitten, although it is still up for debate who admitted it first  😉 .  I think it is pretty cool that Kelly’s cousin turned out to be the best man at her own wedding!

Their big day began with buzzing excitement as the wedding party dressed to impress at the Grand Hyatt in downtown DC. After some token gifts were given, and tears were dabbed, Kelly and her bridal party, along with the groomsmen hopped on a trolly and headed over to Lafayette Park where Alex was waiting with his best man for a first look at his beautiful bride to be. After having some fun near the White House capturing this stunning pair and their beautiful wedding party, we made our way to the historic New York Avenue Presbyterian Church.

They say that rain on your wedding day is lucky, and Kelly and Alex were doubly lucky on their special day because not only did they get rain on their wedding day, but it came most conveniently as a quick downpour during the ceremony while they were safely inside the church! After an emotional and heartfelt ceremony the rains cleared and friends and family moved right across the street to the National Museum of Women in the Arts for a fantastic reception. Their celebration was complete with a cocktail hour, delicious meal, touching and humorous toasts, and the fantastic Black Tie band who rocked the house and provided the perfect catalyst for a massive dance party! Congratulations Kelly and Alex, my awesome assistant Larkin & I truly had a blast photographing your wedding and I couldn’t be happier for you both!!
