This wedding brought me back to my naturalist days as a snowshoe guide in Vail, partly because it was out in the woods in Thurmont, Maryland, and partly because it was bitterly cold. Poor Bernadette and Joel had planned to get married outside at Thorpwood and have the reception in an unheated barn, but it was so cold that we ended up having the ceremony in the barn and a very cozy reception in the main cabin, with a fire going and all. Good thing, too, because when I met up with Joel and his groomsmen to take some getting ready shots and portraits, we encountered some snow flurries, believe it or not. Regardless of the weather, spirits were high and Bernadette and Joel had a beautiful and intimate wedding day with wonderful family and friends. Everyone celebrated with some heartfelt toasts and a really really delicious pre-thanksgiving fried turkey buffet.

The day started with portraits of Joel and his groomsmen, and then of Bernadette and her bridesmaids. We then went to the barn for a beautiful ceremony. They even provided gloves with the program. Afterwards, while the guests enjoyed wine, beer, and cheese, we stayed out in the bitter cold taking pictures. We had some real troopers in that bridal party and ended up with some great photos. The main lodge offered the warmth we needed, where they had a wonderful reception, featuring a giant fireplace, delicious buffet with fried turkey, toasts, caramel apples as gifts, and lots of fun dancing. It’s always a good party when people pull out their awesome dance moves! I was also pleased to see the engagement session look book as a guest book.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bernadette and Joel earlier this year for their Georgetown engagement session, and after spending a couple hours with them walking around the town, I knew we were going to have a great time at their wedding. I loved working with Bernadette and Joel; it was a wonderful way to end the wedding season!

Gaylen and Jared’s wedding was a blast from start to finish! I had met up with Gaylen several times before the big day to go over lots of details in preparation for her fabulous wedding, so I was really excited when the time came to see all her hard work come to fruition. It was a beautiful Saturday in early November when I met up with Gaylen at the Hotel Lombardy, where she and her bridesmaids were getting ready. Everyone was in good spirits and excited for the day ahead. Once Gaylen and the girls were ready to go, we met up with Jared and his groomsmen in Lafayette Park, where Gaylen and Jared had their “first glance.” This is where we took the bridesmaid and groomsman photos, being sure to feature the White House in the background.

The limo picked up the bridal party and took them to Christ Church in Georgetown, while the bride, her father, and I caught a town car there shortly after. We were greeted by a bagpiper and all of Galyen and Jared’s beautifully dressed family and friends. After the ceremony, we took family portraits at the Church while guests were shuttled to the Metropolitan Club where the cocktail hour and reception took place. After the family portraits, Gaylen, Jared, and I took the “hum-limo” to different scenic spots in Georgetown for more couples portraits. We made it over to the Metropolitan Club where, after the cocktail hour, the bridal party was introduced to the guests, and the partying began! Some unique reception details included personalized stone coasters as guest gifts, a signature blueberry and prosecco cocktail as her “something blue,” and a cool book of  Washington, D.C. sights and attractions that served as the guest book. From the speeches, to the cake cutting (with the twist of a frosting war), to the dancing, everyone had a really wonderful time (myself included)!

I had a fabulous time working with Gaylen, Jared, and all of their family and friends. It was truly a pleasure to have the opportunity to capture such a special day and magnificent celebration.

Lynn & Matt didn’t plan for this cold but beautiful winter white wedding when they booked their wedding at the beautiful Irvine Nature Center in Maryland, but boy, if it wasn’t one of the best surprises ever! Though they had to move the ceremony indoors into the nature center itself (rather than outside under the gazebo like they had originally planned) due to the weather, we were able to take advantage of the serene beautiful winter setting to get some amazing and unique photos out in the snow! Matt and Lynn, and the bridal party, were more than excited to go outside for their portraits, and I am so excited to be able to share them with you below! The ceremony was sweet and short, and the reception, though still a little chilly in the tent, was intimate and very festive! It was certainly a fabulous wedding to remember (just like her sister Sally’s wedding that I photographed last year in Colorado) and I hope you enjoy looking at the photos just as much as I loved making them!

It was a lovely, brisk fall morning in October when I met up with Jenny & Christopher for their engagement session. We had such a great time chit chatting, and walking around Leesburg for some fun photos with the fall colors and old town backdrop. They were so fun to work with, and super photogenic too! I couldn’t take a bad photo with these two I can’t wait to photograph their wedding next summer! I just know it’s going to be amazing! Enjoy!

Wow! This wedding was a 3 day affair that blew me away! We lucked out with the perfect fall weather all weekend and a fabulous group of people to work with! Friday we had the rehearsal dinner at the Cosmos Club that was highlighted by the grooms cake, a large perfectly crafted and delicious Ipad with personalized apps displaying special moments in Martin’s life. It was pretty cool I must say!

Saturday was a 12 hour wedding marathon which started with the girls getting ready at the beautiful Chevy Chase Club (also the site for the reception). Jess used the absolutely fabulous celebrity make up artist Carl Ray and the also fabulous hair stylist Ismal from DC’s Four Seasons Hotel Salon. They did a fabulous job and you can see, Jess (already a gorgeous bride) looked and felt Amazing!! After mucho pampering and prepping, we headed to the Georgetown’s Christ Church for the ceremony. The ceremony had originally been planned for the National Cathedral, but due to the crazy earthquake that rumbled the city just a couple months prior, damaging the cathedral, they chose the next best venue, and it worked out beautifully! The ceremony was followed by some group and family photos and the cocktail hour on the back porch of the chevy chase club. We took some fun shots both at the church and on the golf corse just before the sun sank down and the temperature dropped.

The reception was held in the upstairs ballroom and everyone had an amazing time! From speeches and cake cutting to dancing and wacky photo booth poses, the evening proved to be a hit! Sunday came around much more quickly than Jess and Martin had anticipated but they put on their game faces and smiled all afternoon for our day after session. We made our way around some sentimental spots for Jess and Martin who basically grew up on the National Cathedral grounds where they both attended school. Because we weren’t able to get shots during the wedding day at the Cathedral, or around the City, this was the perfect day to do so. We got some wonderful photos so it was absolutely worth that extra effort! Enjoy!

I am so excited to work with Garrett and Lisa again for their wedding next fall! They have been so much fun to work with so far! We met a few weeks ago to capture some fun engagement photos around DC. We started at the Willard where they went on (if I remember correctly) their first date together, and worked our way over to the Eastern Market neighborhood. It was a gorgeous day and we had a wonderful time! Enjoy!!

We had an amazing weekend in Williamsburg at the Kingsmill Resort this October! I met Matt & Sarah last spring through a friend and just fell in love with them! They are so much fun to work with, and just look at how gorgeous they are! The day was filled with laughter and sunshine! From getting ready for the wedding, to dancing their hearts out, Matt & Sarah went all out (as did their fabulous family and friends!). They brought their attention to detail and personal touch into every aspect of the day. Everyone had an amazing time, have a look and you’ll see what I mean! And be sure not to miss the photo booth pics at the end….I love it when people ham it up in front of the cameras!!
