Ian and I have been friends since our collegiate days at Colorado College. Sometimes I still find it hard to believe how time has flown when suddenly old buddies are popping questions, but with Ian and Kristine, it’s just such a natural match. Especially because this lady is that total package: super sweet and wicked fun, pretty with an edge. All you have to do is take a look at those calf muscles in the shots to see that she’s an elite athlete-the kind that challenges herself with weekender activities like Ironman triathlons. They met through mutual friends at a concert, but it was over frozen yogurt that romance kindled.
So, this “manly-man with sweet, genuine insides” friend proposed on a mountainside in Vail, surrounded by falling snow. I was thrilled to take their engagement portraits on a recent trip. It was one of Colorado’s rare cloudy days, but it only made the mountains look greener. They brought their dog Lucy up to Vail, where she gave me cute, contorted pup faces and we shot into the evening on the streets of Denver. It’s a great series for this easygoing couple: a little wilderness, a lot of fun, and an effortless touch of class.
